“Growing up, my parents and I always looked for places that blended self betterment and fellowship. The major place I found this before coming to Westminster was the Boy Scouts. There, I discovered my passion for community service by going to eagle projects. Whether it was collecting clothing for the homeless or building stairs for a local park, I learned valuable life skills and values. At the same time, I went on monthly camp outs that gave me some of my most valued friendships with good men. By the end of my time, I did my own eagle project constructing a foot trail in a local memorial park by laying down over 200 yards of gravel and mulch, constructing two sets of steps, and building a 12’ foot bridge.
Coming into Westminster as a freshman I looked for organizations with values for both philanthropy and friendship. I didn’t find any organization with finer men than Theta Chi. In my first year, I became philanthropy chair and put together a spaghetti dinner. With the help of my brothers we collected raffle baskets from local businesses, sold advertisements for 20+ businesses in a program, and sold over 200 tickets for the event. As members of the community left, they where able to mingle with brothers over sliced prosciutto and see the 12 point sacred purpose event discussing mental and physical hurdles for college students. The event raised over $2300 for veteran transitional services provided by the USO. Each semester we have an event benefitting our philanthropy. I joined the fraternity because I knew the reputation of decency and compassion it maintained. On nights like the spaghetti dinner, I am most thankful for the the bonds I have formed with the brothers of Theta Chi.
Picking up my bid may be the single most beneficial & impactful decision I’ve made in my time at Westminster.”
